eFileReviewer - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why should my corporation use eFileReviewer?

Most corporate tax software produces paper tax returns and an XML file for submission to the IRS. Upon producing the paper tax returns, the same software package extracts the data from these paper returns and converts the data into an XML file format that conforms to the IRS Modernized e-file (MeF) format.

Over 17,000 data fields are being harvested from the paper returns to the XML file. Because the return corporations are filing with the IRS is not in paper format but an XML file, they will be required to review the content of the XML file to ensure the accuracy of their tax returns. Unfortunately, the content of an XML file is not reviewable by most tax professionals because it is a structured text data that follows programming language. Additionally, not all corporate income tax software that produces an XML file can provide an independent means by which XML file content can be reviewed by tax preparers.

eFileReviewer produces tax returns in PDF format from XML file data so that tax professionals can review the XML data content. Because eFileReviewer is independent software whose sole function is to convert the content of an XML file in to a PDF format, it provides an effective means by which most tax professionals can review the content of an XML file and ensure that the XML file contains accurate tax return data.

  2. How can I use eFileReviewer?

Tax Technologies, Inc. (TTI) provides eFileReviewer to licensed users as a hosted solution. By using a hosted solution, your company is not required to set up servers or download anything on its computers. Once a company agrees to the licensing terms and pays the license fee, a representative of the TTI support team will provide each authorized user a URL, user ID, and password. Using this log in information, you can upload the XML file to eFileReviewer and review the content of the XML file.

  3. How long does it take to set up eFileReviewer?

As a hosted application service provider (ASP) solution, eFileReviewer does not require any computer set up. Once you pay the licensing fee, you will be able to use eFileReviewer within 24 hours of a representative of the TTI support team setting up the database.

  4. How can my company ensure the privacy of our return information?

TTI gives each company using eFileReviewer individual database access. TTI also works with IBM Global Solutions to make sure data is secure. Additionally, once you upload the data to eFileReviewer and you produce a PDF return, you can delete the return data.

  5. Does eFileReviewer accept data formats other then XML?

Yes. eFileReviewer can accept the PDF files that are part of the MeF package and allow you to view PDF attachments as well. This will ensure a complete review of entire tax return before it is filed with the IRS.

  6. Will eFileReviewer accept an XML file generated from my corporate tax software?

Yes. Because the IRS accepts the XML standard format, your corporate tax software should be able to produce the required XML file and then upload it directly to eFileReviewer.

  7. Do I need to have my entire corporate tax return completed before I can produce my XML file and upload it to eFileReviewer?

No. You can produce all or parts of your tax returns in XML format and then upload only the parts of the XML file that you want to eFileReviewer to review partially completed returns. TTI recommends that you use eFileReviewer as part of your tax compliance process so that you can review returns as you are preparing them and then make any needed corrections quickly.

  8. What version of Adobe Acrobat Reader should I have installed on my PC in order to view the PDF file?

Any version of Adobe Acrobat Reader should work with a PDF file generated from eFileReviewer.

  9. What Web browser does the eFileReviewer support?

TTI requires that you use Microsoft® Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher.

  10. Can I access eFileReviewer from my PC at home?

Yes. As long as you are a registered user, you can access the software from any PC with an Internet connection because eFileReviewer is a Web-based application.

  11. Can I save a PDF document generated in eFileReviewer to my local hard drive?

    Yes.

  12. How large of a PDF document can I create in eFileReviewer?

If a document contains over 1,000 pages, eFileReviewer will create a PDF file for each 1,000-page segment. For example, if you generate a file in eFileReviewer that contains 2,500 pages, eFileReviewer will segregate that document into three separate documents, each containing no more than 1,000 pages (1 of 3, 2 of 3, and 3 of 3).

  13. How does eFileReviewer produce the statements associated with the various IRS forms?

If a form has various statements associated with it, eFileReviewer will generate the PDF file for that particular form and include the applicable statements associated with it. In particular, eFileReviewer produces a consolidation statement from the stacked returns in XML file that cannot be produced from any other software.

  14. How much does it cost to license eFileReviewer?

TTI gives eFileReviewer to Tax Series™ compliance module users free of charge as an independent review mechanism. For companies that are not using Tax Series to prepare their tax returns, please contact a TTI sales representative at (866) 239-4884 or sales@taxtechnologies.com for product pricing.
